Different Types Of Air Conditioning Systems

When summer heat begins to intensify, finding respite in the cool comfort of an air-conditioned space becomes a priority. Ensuring you’re prepared for summer is essential, but with a wide array of options available, it’s hard to know which kind of air conditioner is for you.

In this blog, we’ll explore the different types of aircon systems to help you determine the best choice for your space.

Window Air Conditioners

Window air conditioners are popular for cooling individual rooms or small spaces. As the name suggests, they are installed in a window frame or a dedicated hole in a wall. These units comprise a single box that houses all components, including the evaporator, compressor, condenser and fan.

These air conditioners are relatively affordable, easy to install and do not require additional ductwork. However, they may obstruct the view from the window.

Split Air Conditioners

These air conditioners have two main components, including an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The indoor unit, which includes the evaporator coil and the cooling fan, is typically mounted on a wall or suspended from the ceiling. The outdoor unit houses the compressor and the condenser.

Split air conditioners provide efficient cooling for individual rooms or larger spaces. They offer the flexibility to install multiple indoor units connected to a single outdoor unit.

Central Air Conditioning Systems

These air conditioning systems are designed to cool entire buildings or multiple rooms. These systems are divided into two main types: ducted and ductless. The ducted central air conditioning system utilises a network of ducts to distribute cooled air throughout the building. It requires professional installation and is commonly found in residential and commercial buildings.

On the other hand, ductless central air conditioning systems, also known as mini-split systems, consist of multiple indoor units which are connected to an outdoor unit. The indoor units can be wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted or even concealed within the ceiling. Ductless mini-split systems offer energy efficiency, individualised temperature control and quiet operation. They are an excellent option for retrofitting older homes or adding cooling capabilities to specific areas.

Portable Air Conditioners

Portable air conditioners offer a convenient cooling solution for spaces that do not have a window or require temporary cooling. These units consist of a single box with wheels for easy mobility. They extract heat from the air and vent it through a flexible exhaust hose that can be directed out of a window or through a small opening.

While portable air conditioners are versatile and easy to install, they are generally less powerful and efficient as compared to other types of air conditioning systems.

Rely On Professionals For Air Conditioning Systems

Choosing the right type of air conditioning system depends on several factors, including the size of the space, budget, energy efficiency requirements and personal preferences. By evaluating your specific needs and consulting with professionals, you can select the best type of air conditioning system that ensures optimal comfort during the summer months.
